Artist’s Journey & Progress: Week 2 Recap

Recent Endeavors: Adventures in the Land of Ozulé

Spring Break!

Had a chance to get some much needed rest and a more leisurely change of pace this week. Musing: What would it take to restructure our days as a society?

I enjoyed being lakeside and lounging at the park. The birds, the breeze, and the peace of a gentle environment…

Studio Recording Updates

I recorded a summer single at Untold Stories Recordings. What a great learning and doing experience. I enjoyed the recording workflow more than in my recording space – I was able to focus fully on my performance, and I think the results will be clear in the final version.

Now, I have to plan out the release! I’d like to become a Spotify artist and stream my music on all platforms. There’s more to learn about marketing and distribution, but I feel ready to leap in this summer!

Building community, personal connections, and creating space for lifestyle change

I have been in a space of allowing and letting go of old habits and structures. Reimagining what life could be like without the unneeded rules, constraining thoughts, and hurtful habits. In turn, I hope this allows more space for the connections to emerge and direct me towards a changed life for the better.

>Open Mic Performances

I’ve been making artist friends and putting myself out there. I feel so welcome by the Hairpin Arts Fam especially, and been received well in the space I’ve been in. Thank u, xoxo.

(I’ve even considered doing some public freestyling / cyphers! Talk about letting go…!)

>Noom: Recommitting to a healthy lifestyle

I signed up for Noom, a weight loss and healthy lifestyle change program. By this time next year, I am estimated to reach my goal. Overall, my ‘Why’ is that I want to honor the life I have by living at a high quality. This is why I invest in my emotional and spiritual growth. Now it’s time to align the physical body as well.

>Studio Space Redesign

I’ve realized there is so much more I can do with my space if I repurpose and reimagine what the space can be. Think: less fixed furniture, more creative space and flexible furnishings.

Opening to Universe Callings

>Rescuing a Bumblebee Fren’

… and later seeing a bumblebee along my trail. I’m going to expound on this in another blog post. Stay tuned!

>Dreams & Patterns

Being aware of the dreams I have and how I sleep/wake, and what my subconscious may be communicating through dreams. Being more attuned to the spiritual meanings, while not being overtaken or overly-influenced by them.

Let’s Wrap!

Moving into the second half of April… what comes next, who is to say!

Because clearly the first half was action packed!

More ‘Coming Soon’ – April 2023 and beyond!

Signing off for now…

Artist’s Journey & Progress: Growth Cycle

Cultivating Liberation Art Space has been a journey – challenging, rewarding, revelatory, and full of fun surprises of fulfillment. As has my journey towards becoming, and more importantly, recognizing and accepting myself as an artist.

When I first began making music, admittedly, I found myself creating for approval, often with an eye towards what other people would like and well receive. These days, I create with a firmer commitment to authenticity and healing – which often means bringing the unspoken to full voice and speaking uncomfortable truths. I’ve found a certain freedom in expressing what needs to be said, rather than what is convenient or pleasing to say.

All the while, I still find nuggets of truth, a certain essence and consistent perspective that was still present even in those early days. Even looking back at high school and earlier, there are some through lines that carry me through my musings to this day.

I start with that essence of me, that which I seek to savor and desire to exude, which for me is unreserved love, playfulness, kindness, which in turn expands into creativity, a wondrous imagination and reconfiguring of possibilities…

From there, I create alternative, demos, prototypes, examples and analogies of what I seek to manifest. As time goes on, my perspectives develop further, I see angles and contours of experience that are revealed only through the layering and interaction. Which is why collaboration has become so thrilling and welcome.

My music coach recently shared that even above my creative and artistic abilities, my capacity to collaborate and make connections really is a fundamental asset to my style. I did not realize this, and the observation has been swirling around in my mind ever since. Collaboration (collabs) come naturally to me. There’s much fun and possibility in merging with another artist, and seeing how a project develops under the co-shaping and mutually navigated decisions.

This leads to healing connection – when artists can be seen, understood, and have space to connect and share in a way that’s full of ease and fulfillment.

All this brings us back to further refining and gathering the seeds of essence that keep the cycle of growth moving.

This is how Liberation Art Space and Ozulé Studios are proliferating. A simple magic, indeed.

Getting Into the Studio!!!

I’m preparing to work with Untold Stories Recording this week, and it’s very exciting. This will be my first time going to a recording studio and I’ve booked a few hours of studio time so we can get some summer singles down for release on all streaming! To help me prepare, my vocal teacher Vero Astala is coaching me through the process, from achieving the best techniques to get my sound rockin’ to recognizing my anxieties and getting my heart to calm down!

The affirmation in the featured post is a derivative of the pep talk Vero shared with me: ‘You already know what to do – so do what comes naturally and allow the universe to do the rest. Record the songs that bring you the most joy!’

Much love to Vero and Untold Stories – helping my art come alive!

Recapping My Artist’s Journey

Where do we go now, where do we go now, where do we go now?

Guns N’ Roses, Sweet Child O’ Mine

Over the past year, I’ve been investing in my healing, creativity, capacity for love and life, and just pausing to be present to the joys, hurts, pleasures of my experiences. I am actively involved in therapy and coaching, charting my healing journey through creative artistic expression.

I am designing Liberation Art Space as a play canvas for all the insights, realizations, and revelations that I am gifted along the way.

As an artist, I create all sorts of musics, paintings, and crafts like zines and scrapbooks. I keep myself open to various mediums, doing what feels right.

I am sharing my journey with the world because I think modeling what healing looks like, in its alinerarity, and messiness, and not always knowing, will be helpful to see unfold. Also, I realize that one day I will not inhabit this Earth anymore in this body. I want a preserved collection that attests to the fact that yes, I did live, yes, I was here. For my descendants to have a piece of me preserved, even when my body is no more. And, I would love for other people – artists, ones carrying wounds, people in search of healing – to be able to share and receive healing salves and comforting practices while we are here in this life together…

Over the course of our time together, however long that may be, I’ll share more about what my journey has yielded, where I’ve been, and what’s next…

Returning with Purpose

Liberation Art Space was shaped from an emergent opportunity, a desire for a freer human expression, a trust and hopeful expectation for what was manifesting; from a knowing we have so much more to explore of ourselves and the world – in ways that are liberatory, restorative, creating new patterns, not in the colonial fashion of recent times, but towards greater awareness and recognition of our connectedness, of our healing capacity as artists… Liberation Art Space is an invitation to explore, create, play, feel, experience love, light, life… you are welcome here ❤
